The diagram below illustrates on a general level the effect left and right brain thinking has on an organisation or team. Currently, in most organisations the left brain is the dominant influence in thinking. In many ways, this is not surprising as most major organisations still have legacies that hark back to times before the internet. Today, however, things are quite the opposite. Education is changing, and business must do the same in order to make mission statements less of an aspiration and more a reality.

The issue is not that there needs to be a full swing from one extreme to the other, but that there needs to be more of a balance between left and right brain thinking. There will be inevitable risks, more ‘failures’, but the benefits will be innovations that lead to success, not stagnation.
